To Exercise You Need “Reasons”

You have heard them say… “I cannot exercise,” “Exercising is hard…” and many such excuses. As someone who has worked out all his life… and I am now 51 years old; I can tell you that if I did not work out all my life, I would not know what “good health” would feel like… I am convinced of this. I know when I don’t exercise for a couple of weeks how I feel and I cannot imagine a person who has not worked out almost all his/her life must feel like. And consider that feeling okay…

You know what it is like… If you never smelled a rose and I tried to explain to you in words what a rose smells like… I just couldn’t. The smell of the rose has to be experienced… It cannot be explained in words. So I cannot explain to a person who has never pushed their body to its limits; what it feels like to be in “Great Shape.”

People do things for “Reasons,” they do everything for “Reasons.” They go to school for a reason, they eat for a reason, they get married for a reason, they drive their cars for reasons. We operate with “Reasons” running the show in the background. Human beings need “Reasons” to do anything.

So the next step in our thinking is this; Most people who make up all sorts of “Reasons” for not working out need to make up “Big Reasons” to work out. Let me explain… Imagine you are someone who does not work out, but I come to your house every morning at 6:00AM and tell you that if you don’t get up and exercise right now I am going to kill one of your family members with this gun in my hand… Would you get up and exercise? Of course you would… Why? Because now you have a “Big Enough Reason” to exercise.

Notice now that the questions now are philosophical ones: Is it possible for a human being to create a “Big Reason” for him or her self so that because of it that human being gets up and works out? Most people who works out diligently have great reasons why we work out… The trick to getting your self to exercise is simply to create a “Big Reason” to work out. And there is a way to do that…
